The transmission shift cable is mainly used in manual transmission and some automatic transmission models, as a key mechanical component connecting the driver's operation with the transmission shift mechanism.

Manual gearbox: It uses two independent cables to work together, responsible for gear pushing (pushing the gear to the desired meshing position) and axial movement (ensuring precise alignment of the gear in the axial direction). These two cables directly control the engagement between the synchronizer and the gear through the pushing and pulling action of the shift lever, achieving gear switching. If the cable is loose or has a length deviation, it is easy to cause "jamming" or "disengagement", which affects the safety and comfort of handling.
Automatic transmission: typically a throttle cable (also known as a shift flexible shaft) that connects the throttle valve body to the transmission shifting mechanism. Its core function is to transmit the throttle opening signal, allowing the gearbox to automatically select the optimal shifting timing based on the depth of the driver's throttle (i.e. power demand) and vehicle speed. For example, during rapid acceleration, pressing the accelerator pedal deeply causes the cable to quickly transmit a large angle signal, triggering the gearbox to downshift to enhance power response. During high-speed cruising, stabilizing the throttle opening keeps the cable in high gear to maintain the gearbox and reduce fuel consumption. By adjusting the length of the cable, the shifting timing can be calibrated, reducing the jerkiness caused by shifting too early or too late, and improving smoothness.
